August update
I have been so focused on the newsletter and marketing my book that I have neglected posting any updates. Here is a quick rundown from last month.
What is happening
All three of the kids contracted Covid last month and were quarantined till they were better. Luckily, my wife, mother-in-law, and I were able to avoid it. While my wife and I did catch a bug, it turned out not to be Covid. I was a good boy and wore a mask at work, complying with the recommendations here in California.
Amazon Review
Over the weekend, I was thrilled to see that I had received my first Amazon review from someone outside my sphere of friends and acquaintances. Receiving a 5 star from what looks like a book reviewer on Amazon made my day. I was sending screenshots to family and friends like I was a ten-year-old girl sharing her crush.
What to write
I’ve been spending all my energies on the next book in the sequence and leaving the prequel alone. Although, I have a few scenes for the prequel banging around in my head that need to find their way onto my computer. Last week, I struggled to put together a little more than a thousand words but I’m happy to have created two good scenes. This exercise got the voices in my head talking again. I was thrilled to create a rough outline of where I want the book to go and what the end should look like. This has been my nemesis for the last several months. Since I’m considered a panster and not an outliner, it should be interesting to see how close the outline and the book line up.
What I’m Reading
- This month I read book seven of the Spacers series by Scott Bartlett. He released book eight, “Spacers, Dawn War” this month and I realized I hadn’t even read the previous one. I immediately had thrusters go to full power toward the jump gate where I could meet the rest of the fleet reading book eight. The book continues Captain Thatcher’s quest to stay alive while fighting his nemesis against overwhelming odds.
I was able to beta read the first twenty chapters of a new book that was released by another up and coming author like myself. The Patmos Revelation by Carl Jamieson. He does a great job keeping several pieces of the story moving on their own and I’m looking forward to how they all collide in the end. I certainly recommend you read it.
Looking ahead
I’m glad to report that Nathan Lowell has completed his chemo and radiation treatments and is now in recovery. Hopefully, a few months will find him recovered enough to complete a another of his awesome books. I wish to thank everyone that helped support him and purchased one of his books. If you did, please leave a comment and let me know what you picked up and how you liked it.
