September 2023 Newsletter – Writing Again
Long Absence
Wow, Avalon Found had its first birthday back in June. It was an absolute blast to write, and I still enjoy talking to people and promoting the book.
It also feels good to be able to put this newsletter together after a long hiatus. I had a job change in the first quarter of 2023 and had to focus all my energies on the new job and into creating a second income for the family. During that time, I knew it was necessary to put my writing aside. I’m glad to say that I’m fully emersed in the new job and have completed most of the tasks necessary for the second. A few more weeks and a little more paperwork and I’ll be good to go.
What is happening
I had to make a business trip to Vegas last month and found myself sitting in the front row on the way back. Due to some potential turbulence, the pilot required everyone to stay seated with their seatbelts attached. This included the flight attendants. They took it in stride and pulled out a paperback book before settling into their jump seats. It was delightful to see them reading while bantering back and forth like they were besties for years.
I was able to chat with them and gave them my author business card before we landed. It was a great surprise to see two purchases on Amazon shortly after along with one signing up for my newsletter.
Thank you both for an enjoyable flight and for purchasing a copy of my book.
What I’m Reading
Galaxy Unstable by M.R. Forbes. I had the privilege to beta read this and I suggest you pre-order it now. Forbes continues to amaze me with his writing style by ratcheting up the story with more OMG moments. He excels in having his character fall in a ditch and only dig himself deeper every time he tries to climb out. The book is out on September 15th and is available for pre-ordered on Amazon.
A few Against Many by Ryk Brown. I cannot wait to read these and snatch them up as soon as they are released. I burned thru this book in one weekend. Ryk keeps the story going about Nathan Scott and the crew of the Aurora. With the odds stacked against them, they prepare for their biggest battle yet.
Looking ahead
It is exciting to write again, and I’ve spent the last several weeks reviewing what I wrote and adding a few more scenes. I realize I am definitely a panster, and not an outliner. Try as I might, I find myself moving away from the written outline as the characters do their own thing.
Please reply…
I love to engage with readers, so please reply with what you like and dislike about the book.. In addition, as I write, I will send out my work in progress to those interested in beta reading. (Usually within a short window and with little notice.)
If you’d like to beta read, please reply to this newsletter and I will update your status.
